UV - Important Info
Ink Inform the Ink supplier that you need the Ink formulated for subsequent UV varnishing
Metallic Colours – Silver & Gold must be tested for compatibility with UV varnish
Some colours made with Fanal & Rhodmine pigments, tend to change colour after a longer period of time -which means that the fading takes place after about 6 hours after varnishing.
This can be acute in the case of tints where the concentration of pigment is low. Colours to be carefully tested are Rhodamine, Purple, Reflex Blue, 072 Blue, Violet, and Warm Red.
Inks with high scuff resistance, printing additives, high wax / silicon content tend to create wetting problems due to surface tension going below 35mN/m
Substrate
Paper & Board with poor coating will create problems of cracking at creasing / folding
When the coated surface is not even and porous, the glossiness will be very much less due to penetration of varnish through the coating.
Poor quality coating and highly absorbent stock can get a slight yellow colour in the unprinted areas after varnishing
